In Canada, what makes up a common-law marriage?

I understand some of the points of the concept, like living together one year solid makes you common-law.

I'm using this fact to process my boyfriend through the immigration process, family class.

I was just wondering what else this sort of relationship entails? Legally, and morally. :) More a question for my male half, not myself, but I looove Yahoo Answers, hah! :) I know that just simply living together doesn't count as common-law. We have banks accounts, memberships to various places together, and rings from each other. The only thing stopping us from a full-out marriage is lack of funds to be able to make the big wedding we both want. Which will be easier to get once the male-half is able to work.

Nevermind the premarital funtimes, that we count as marital bliss already. ;)

Overstayed Temporary visa in canada, is it possible to apply for permanent residency with common-law partner ?

hello, my girlfriend is from Thailand and has been in Canada for a couple years now. For the first year she was on a temporary visa but now is without status. We have been living together for 6 months and are hoping for me to sponsor her for permanent residency under common law after we've lived together for 12 months. She has no children, neither do I, and I have sufficient funds to care for her for the period of 3 years that they require for sponsorship. We are both very concerned that because she overstayed her original temp. visa that she will have no chance of getting accepted for permanent residency. We have contacted an immigration lawyer to help us with the application but we would really like to know what the rules are regarding this type of situation and whether or not people have been granted PR status after overstaying on a temporary visa. Any input is greatly appreciated and if anyone knows of someone experienced in this exact case we would love to talk to them.

Sincerely,
J and B

Spot on lung for Medical Exam for Immigration Canada?

Monday, September 6, 2010 4:14
Posted in category Immigration Law

The process for sponsoring a spouse to Canada only takes 3-4 months only (after the application has been submitted ALONG with the MEDICAL EXAM certificate--proof).

My husband just went for his medical exam (the last step to pass his application papers to Immigration Canada).

The doctor called him up a week later and asked him to come back for another Xray. After the 2nd x-ray, the doctor called him again, and told him to come back because of a spot. The doctor's secretary told him to go to this other doctor for 3 days in a row, that will explain and give him medication. They will test his phlegm too. (but he doesnt have any) They scheduled him for another xray in 3 months.

Should I be worried that it's something serious? Can I still submit his application? Will they process his application even if he's been rescheduled for another x-ray? Has anyone gone through this while applying for Canada? Will he be delayed in coming here? What's the next step?

Please help!
My husband went to a laboratory at Makati Med and was told to cough up phlegm. he didnt even see ANY doctor. This was for 3 days in a row. He had to pay 950 PHP for each day. After the 3rd day, they told him that they will call him on Nov 30 for the results...and IF they need to give him medication.

The confusing part is that he's already got another xray scheduled for Dec. 3.

if he tested positive for something, and is given medicine, can the medicine cure whatever it might be for only 3 days???? i dont think so.

the lab technicians said something about nodules...they said it might not be anything.

but still....it doesnt make any sense. i'm beginning to think that we're being jigged for our money.

does this sound fraudulent, or am i just being paranoid??
